How the free practice tests work

Pick your exam

Open any card above. You can start right away as a guest. No sign-up form, no card.

Choose a mode

Test Mode runs a timer and scores you at the end. Study Mode shows the explanation after each answer you check.

Free practice vs. the full Exam bank

The free test is meant to answer one question: does this style of practice help you? It is not a full-length mock and it will not tell you your official score.

Each Exam bank covers one exam. If you are preparing for two (for example TEAS and HESI A2), take both free tests first and only pay for the exam your school actually requires.

Try a question before you choose

This is the kind of rationale you get on every free and paid question.

Sample · SAT Math — Systems of linear equations

The system of equations below has solution (x, y). What is the value of x?

x + y = 8
2x − y = 1
A) 2
B) 3 ✓
C) 4
D) 5

Why: Add the two equations so y cancels: (x + y) + (2x − y) = 8 + 1, so 3x = 9 and x = 3. Then y = 5. Choice D is the value of y, a common trap when you solve for the wrong variable.

How to pick the right free test

Start from the requirement, not the search result. The right exam is the one your school, board, or employer names.

  • Applying to nursing school? Check your program’s admissions page for TEAS, HESI A2, or NLN PAX, and prepare for the one it lists rather than all three.
  • Finishing nursing school? NCLEX-PN is for practical and vocational nurses; NCLEX-RN is for registered nurses.
  • Applying to college? Check whether your schools want the SAT, the ACT, or either. Take both free tests if you are undecided and compare how each feels.
  • Becoming a teacher? Many states and programs use Praxis Core; Florida uses the FTCE. Your state education department has the final word.
  • Earning a credential? PMP, SHRM-CP, and CompTIA A+ each have eligibility or exam-part rules. A+ has two exams (Core 1 and Core 2), and the free test here covers Core 1. Real estate exams vary by state.

Official exam details: ATI (TEAS), Elsevier (HESI), NCSBN (NCLEX), NLN, GED, College Board (SAT), ACT, SHRM, ETS (Praxis), CompTIA (A+), and FTCE. For PMP, see PMI’s official PMP certification page.

What a 20-question score can and cannot tell you

Twenty questions is a small sample. Each question is worth five percentage points, so one lucky guess or one rushed miss moves your score a lot. Use the result for direction, not as a verdict.

  • Look at the subject breakdown, not just the total. Two misses in one area tell you more than an overall percentage.
  • Treat the 70% mark as a practice benchmark. The free test scores you against 70% so the result has a reference point. It is not your school’s cut score or the official passing standard.
  • Sort your misses. Was it a concept you didn’t know, a misread question, or time pressure? Each needs a different fix.
  • Retaking the same 20 questions tests memory more than readiness. For fresh questions and timed sets, move to the Exam bank or to official practice materials.

Free practice test FAQ

Are the practice tests really free?

Yes. Every exam listed here has 20 free questions with rationales. You do not need a card, and you can start without an account.

Do I need to create an account?

Not to take a free test. If you want your score saved, create a free account. Guest results are not stored after you leave.

Is 20 questions enough to know if I’m ready?

No. Twenty questions shows you the question style and your likely weak areas. Readiness takes more practice, timed sets, and, where available, the official practice test from your exam’s publisher.

What do I get if I upgrade?

The full Exam bank for that one exam, with rationales and saved progress. Bank sizes range from 400+ to 2,000+ questions depending on the exam, and plans are $49, $129, or $199 by access length. Check the Exam page for the exact count before you buy.

Are these official exam questions?

No. They are original PrepNovat practice questions written to match each exam’s published content areas. PrepNovat is not affiliated with any exam publisher or licensing board.
